Standard Chartered Bank in the Middle East and South Asia region (MESA), has developed a comprehensive core banking software called eBBS. The bank has used the state of the art J2EE technology, the Java 2 Enterprise Edition, for developing the software. Standard Chartered's in-house Regional IT team in Dubai led the development of the software working closely with United Computer and Management Consultancy (UCMC), the Sole Distributor for IBM Products and services in Dubai and the Northern Emirates. Standard Chartered launched the software by changing over its operating system in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in August 2002. The eBBS system has replaced older legacy systems and is being currently used by a thousand users in the Bank. eBBS will be rolled out across the Bank's Middle East and South Asian countries in 2003.On the technical architecture, eBBS provides an easy-to-use browser based Graphical User Interface (GUI) screens. Other external systems can be connected with eBBS using the industry standard XML connectivity interface. eBBS has been developed using the IBM's eBusiness framework on J2EE, which includes software components like the Websphere Application servers, MQ series, Secureway LDAP, Websphere edge servers, Linux servers, DB2 database and hardware servers like the pSeries and iSeries. - (menareport.com)
