Today the whole world celebrates the Day to Combat Desertification and Drought.
This day has a special meaning for the Republic of Kalmykia. Here is located the driest region of the European territory of Russia - the Black Earth desert, which occupies 4.4 million hectares or 58.7% of the total area of ??the republic.
The best helper in the fight against desertification is land reclamation activities. Basically, they are represented by two types: phytomelioration (sand consolidation) and hydro reclamation (restoration of water structures).
