"Conservation through documentation is, as Prof. Andrzej Tomaszewski, a scientific record of the spatial form of a monument to save it in the scientific consciousness and through it in the collective memory of the society. The experiences of Polish conservators in the reconstruction or reconstruction of monuments that seemed to be irretrievably lost as a result of the destruction of World War II are a clear proof of the truthfulness of this statement, said Deputy Minister of Culture and National Heritage, General Conservator of Monuments Dr. Jaros?aw Sellin at a press conference at the National Heritage Institute.
Dr. Sellin emphasized the importance of the efforts of Polish conservators, who often risked their lives to save priceless documentation. Thanks to their efforts, monuments of history important for the national culture were reconstructed after the war.
The experience of the last century, but also the latest events - Russia's aggression against Ukraine, aimed at the country's cultural assets - require the continuous development of documentary projects relating to the material heritage of our country, more and more often present in the virtual dimension of existence, said the deputy head of the Ministry of Culture during the event.
