OTTAWA | In patients with cervical incompetence and dilated cervix, cervical cerclage was a more effective treatment than bed rest, according to a Vancouver study.
"Treatment with cerclage provided greater prolongation of pregnancy than bed rest alone," said study author Dr. Craig Burym of the University of British Columbia.
Dr. Burym and colleagues performed a retrospective study of women presenting at British Columbia Women's Hospital with a dilated cervix. Results for those who were treated with cerclage (treatment group) were compared with those of women who were admitted to hospital and treated with bed rest alone (control group).
