BURLINGTON - Jimmy Collins, president of Concept Builders Inc. in Burlington, prides himself on being a hometown builder.
Concept may be relatively small in comparison to other Triad home builders, placing 15th in total sales last year, according to Business Journal research. But Concept stands tall in Alamance County, where it is the secondlargest home builder based in the county.
Last year, Concept sold 41 homes, all in Alamance County. Collins, who had $7.3 million in revenues last year, projects more than $11 million will come in this year.
Collins also has gained the respect of his peers, receiving the 2001 Builder of the Year award from the Homebuilders Association of Burlington Alamance County.
"I have sold a couple of Jimmy's homes, and he's a pleasure to work with," says June Larson, a real estate agent and a member of the association's board of directors.
"I am pleased with the approach that Concept takes with giving the consumer information not only when they buy the house but for their purposes in the future," she says.
Building a concept
Collins formed Concept Builders in late 1992 after stints at Westminster Homes and John Kavanagh Co., where he primarily handled tasks ranging from land development to construction.
