The Pentagon's computer security office is warning DoD Internet users to beware of a new software program released April 5 on the Internet designed to find security flaws in any computer system. The Security Administrator Tool for Analyzing Networks (SATAN), available free of charge, could be a menace if it fell into the wrong hands, primarily "hackers," who are infamous for breaking into computer software programs. For DoD users who need help identifying those vulnerabilities, the Automated Systems Security Incident Support Team (ASSIST) has established a hotline to help resolve problems, get systems operational, and recommend corrective measures to prevent future incidents. Call ASSIST at 800/357-4231.
