Walmart opened its first training academy in West Virginia at its Barboursville store Dec. 8.
Academies are dedicated facilities located in or adjacent to a Walmart Supercenter where hourly supervisors and department managers wül receive two weeks of hands-on training that combines the classroom and the sales floor, explained Bob Gound, human resources manager for Walmart's western West Virginia and eastern Kentucky territory.
In Barboursville's case, the academy i» located in a remodeled portion of the store.
The academy and others like it elsewhere in the country are part of a $2.7 billion investment in training and wage increases for employees announced in 2015 by Walmart.
Dwayne Moore, regional general manager for Walmart, said 62 associates graduated from the Barboursville academy's first class.
