Vodafone, in a clear attempt to portray itself as a 3G front-runner among the major mobile operators, announced last month it was going to offer 3G/GPRS data services to business customers across Europe Over the next four weeks'. The service comes courtesy of the UMTS Vodafone Mobile Connect Card - manufactured by Belgiumbased Option - which will enable laptop users to have seamless roaming between 3G and GPRS networks. The card will initially be marketed in Germany to be followed - in no particular order - by Italy, the UK, the Netherlands, Spain, Portugal and Sweden.
In Germany, the card will retail for euro359 (including VAT), provided that users sign up to a data tariff package from Vodafone. As it is technically possible to configure the data card to work with other 3G networks if the end-user has the appropriate SIM Vodafone prices the card at euro999 for those who do not sign up to one of its data tariff packages (which...
