TORONTO--When Keith Gillam came to Canada in 1967, he intended to spend a year travelling in North America before returning to his job with Bovis Corp., a large British construction company.
Thing's didn't quite work out that way.
Instead, Gillam stayed in Canada, where he eventually became the chairman and chief executive officer of Vanbots Construction Corp., a company that has become major player in both the Canadian and international construction markets.
The company now has offices in Montreal and Vancouver and works internationally in the United States and Britain.
Since joining Vanbots in 1991, Gillam has pursued what many regard as a non-traditional vision for the company--one that has seen an emphasis on a non-adversarial, team approach to construction management.
Gillam put that vision on display on the weekend, inviting a dozen British architects and developers to Canada for a first-hand look at the Canadian way of doing business.
