Tyson and Hudson Foods are to merge the assets of the two companies. Tyson will acquire Hudson for $642 million pending regulatory approval.
The merger was announced Sept. 4 by Leland Tollett, chairman of the board and CEO of Tyson Foods and James Hudson, chairman of the board of Hudson Foods.
The two publicly-held companies both have southwest Missouri locations. Tyson has plants in Monett and Neosho, said company spokesman Ed Nichols.
The Monett site employs 900 people while the Neosho plant employs 325.
Hudson has three Missouri sites: Springfield, Noel and Dexter.
Springfield's turkey operations, which are the principal turkey sites in the country for the company, employ a total of 1,642 people, according to March 1997 figures, said Robert Udowitz, spokesman for Hudson.
Dexter employs 805 and Noel 1,669.
