Two readymix concrete companies in the Bathurst area were fined $50,000 each Dec. 10 for violating sections of the Competition Act, after charges were brought before Court of Queen's Bench by the Bureau of Competition Policy of Consumer and Corporate Affairs Canada.
The companies are Kenny Ready Mix Ltd. of Bathurst and Blanchard Ready Mix Ltd. of Allardville, near Bathurst.
According to John Bean, chief of criminal matters with the Bureau of Competition Policy in Hull, QC, the case goes back a few years.
According to the agreed statement of facts, both companies were the sole providers of ready mix concrete in the Bathurst area until the month of July, 1985.
