While driving south on the Seward Highway toward Portage Valley over the Memorial Day holiday, I was enjoying the majestic scenery of Turnagain Arm when just as I was starting to pass through Indian, I noticed a new barbecue drive-thru restaurant in what was normally a vacant building.
The restaurant's name was prominently displayed on top, "Turnagain Arm Pit," and slightly underneath with flames coming off of it, "BBQ."
My first thought: "There's no way I'd eat somewhere named after an armpit."
But after hiking up to Byron Glacier, I had worked up a healthy appetite.
"Hmmm, barbecue actually sounds pretty good," I thought. "But do I really want to eat at a place named after an armpit?"
On the drive back to Anchorage, traffic was going pretty slow and my stomach was growling something fierce since it was dinnertime. I swear it was chanting "BBQ! BBQ! BBQ!"
