LOMPOC, Calif. - Two men sought in connection with a robbery and fatal shooting at Vandenberg Federal Credit Union here have been arrested. A third person was already in custody and police continued their search for a fourth suspect.
The most recent arrest was that of Dereck Owens Jr., 19, who surrendered to police in Los Angeles less than 24 hours after his picture was broadcast nationwide on the "America's Most Wanted" television program.
Less than a week earlier, Marcus Darwen Adams, 27, was arrested in Las Vegas after he allegedly attempted to shoplift a 45-cent ice cream bar, police reported.
Gregory Dean Mitchell, 18, was arrested days after the Aug. 8 robbery-homicide that stunned this community. Police now say it was Mitchell who fired the shots that killed 48-year-old Christine Orciuch, a mother of three, and wounded Octavio Gallardo, 32, both of them members of the credit union.
At press time, police were continuing their search for a fourth suspect, whom they identified as Shauncy Lamont Bowen, 24.
The suspects will face murder, attempted murder and robbery charges in connection with the robbery and shooting. Authorities have not decided whether to seek the death penalty in the case.
Owens was being held without bail at the Lompoc Police Department after turning himself in on Sunday (Sept. 7). The TV show, which aired the day before and profiled both Owens and. Bowen, resulted in nine anonymous tips about the fugitives.
