Located in East Africa in the region known as "The Horne of Africa," Ethiopia is bordered by Kenya in the south, the Sudan in the west, Somalia in the east, and the Red Sea in the north. The country is 1,226,618 sq. kms (471, 776 sq. mi.). Addis Ababa is the capital city with a population of 1,125,000.
Its strategic location in the Horne of Africa has made the country a bridge between Africa and Asia and a crossroad of various cultures and civilizations.
Ethiopia is one of the oldest nations in the world. Archaeologists have found this country to be very interesting. They have discovered remains of early man estimated over 3.5 million years old. It is believed that this part of the world is the area where early man lived and probably where the earliest man started community life.
"The most important thing to remember about Ethiopia is that its history has continuity," says Tamene Eshete, the Ethopian government's charge d'affaires here in Washington.
