Interview with Dr. Thomas Kustner, Chairman of the Board of STN Atlas Elektronik
What today is STN ATLAS Elektronik originally developed within the Krupp Concern under Krupp Atlas Elektronik and was amongst the concern's companies producing the highest profit. Later this company, well-known nationally and internationally in the area of under-water and land technology, became part of the Bremer Vulkan Group. Within the scope of a restructuring, Rheinmetall DeTec AG and BAE Systems took over the company (51%/49%), and another restructuring is now looming whereby BAE Systems is expected to become the majority shareholder.
In an interview with Monch's Dr. Ezio Bonsignore and Manfred Sadlowski, the Chairman of STN Atlas Elektronik, Dr. Ing. Thomas Kustner, and Dipl.-Ing. Uwe Duveneck, Head of the Business Area land and Air Systems explained the current position of their company and the scope of the ongoing restructuring.
STN is currently the largest single company within Rheinmetall DeTec with one third of the personnel and achieving one third of the group's turnover. This lead to Dr. Kustner being assigned to the Board of Directors, which in part reflects a traditional practice whereby the leaders of the different companies are usually represented there, but also shows the strategic direction of DeTec. In addition to the Chairman of the Board and the Directors for Personnnel and Marketing, the Directors the four operational business areas are represented. These areas had already existed in the past, but have now beeen newly defined. This structure will give Dr. Kustner also influence upon the policy of sister companies, e.g. in Zurich, Kassel, Oberndorf...
