SIEMENS has released an anti-virus solution to its customers affected by the Stuxnet worm which targets its WinCC SCADA system. The Stuxnet trojan is distributed via USB sticks, and is enabled by simply viewing the contents of the USB stick. The malware is the first to specifically target Siemens automation products, activating whenever WinCC or PCS 7 software is installed.Siemens says it is currently pursuing the detailed analysis of the emerged malware, together with experts from the security community to determine how this relates to the WinCC software. In the meantime, Siemens has made available the Sysclean tool from TrendMicro for detecting and removing the virus.Siemens says customers with infected computers should inform customer support. As each plant is individually configured, Siemens cannot rule out the possibility that removing the virus may affect the plant in some way.Siemens claims there is only one known case where a customer's WinCC computer was infected, and thus far it has no indication that the virus is affecting plant control systems.
