Applauded for its overall research effort - and specifically for the contributions of strategist Andrew Garthwaite - SBC Warburg Dillon Read currently boasts global teams in about 20 sectors. "We started first in mining at least a dozen years ago," recounts Stephen Carr, a former food manufacturing analyst with S.G. Warburg Securities, who became head of U.K. research in 1990 and global research director in late 1995, soon after Swiss Bank Corp. acquired Warburg. A transportation team soon followed, but the majority of SBC Warburg's global groups have been formed in the past two years.
Carr says that SBC Warburg is "trying to benefit clients by putting local industries and local companies in the proper global perspective." The firm has 400 analysts operating in more than 40 countries worldwide. Team members from different locations...
