Warner's Drive-In near Franklin in Pendleton County has been a part of families' summer tradition for more than 60 years.
The drive-in movie theater opened in 1952 on U.S. Route 220 north of the small community's downtown and has shown family-friendly movies on its big wall of a movie screen ever since.
These days, the drive-in offers movies every Friday and Saturday night from the third weekend in May through the second weekend of September. Warner's opens for its 2011 season May 20 with single showing of "Fast Five" on both nights.
"We try to get family-oriented movies," said Jim Hess, who runs and leases the drive-in off of Franlin Oil Co., which owns it. "Everything is PG-13 or better. We keep away from R movies or scary movies. We get "Cars," "Shrek" and those types of movies."
