Rothschild Group has -furthered its North American expansion efforts by opening an office in Calgary and hiring a team of dealmakers there who specialize in oil and gas.
Though Rothschild already had investment bankers specializing in oil and gas companies outside Canada, this is the first time the firm has bankers on the ground in that country serving an industry that is a key component of its economy.
The two-century-old firm in January brought in Bob Gibson and Paul Moynihan as managing directors. Both were principals at Mustang Capital Partners, a Calgary investment banking boutique they co-founded in 2002 that specialized in oil and gas mergers and acquisitions. Three of their colleagues from Mustang Capital are also joining Rothschild.
"You can't be in this country and not cover Calgary," said David Drinkwater, chairman of Rothschild Canada, who is based in Toronto. (His firm also has an office in Montreal.)
