There are two sides to the development community, said Barry Teppola, an owner of Eagle-based The Legend Company. There's the side that builds just to build - those who continue to build out no matter what. They're the developers who work with local governments to end up with a city full of houses spaced at four units per acre, with neighborhoods creeping further and further away from the core.
Then there are the developers who make the sensible growth of a community a priority.
These are the developers who win Grow Smart Awards. Idaho Smart Growth presented its fourth year of these awards in Boise last week, recognizing eight projects and one individual for their efforts to make communities more vibrant and healthy as they grow.
