Philadelphia International Airport is preparing to award the first comprehensive advertising contract in its history to one of five local agencies.
Contenders for the account made presentations last week, and the airport intends to announce its decision in e ru
ary, said Alfred "Fred" Testa Jr., whose arrival last year as the city's director of aviation has sparked a series of new initiatives at the airport.
In the past, officials said, the airport has taken a piecemeal approach to advertising and marketing, with different outside firms handling specific assignments. The airport's new agency, in contrast, will complete many of those assignments itself and take on additional projects expected to include a significant new advertising campaign.
"What we're trying to do is bring all of the various pieces under one roof, so that there's a common theme," Testa said last week, shortly after attending the agency presentations. "We may be a governmental entity, but airports are a business, and we've got to act like one."
Finalists for the account are Earle Palmer Browns Philadelphia office, Elkman/Alexander & Partners of Philadelphia, LevLane Advertising and Public Relations of Bala Cynwyd, the Star Group of Cherry Hill, and Zigzag.net, a Philadelphia marketing firm, airport officials said.
