Patsy Cline is returning to the stage where she gained her fame--The Ryman Auditorium in Nashville.
"Always...Patsy Cline," a two-act theatrical performance based on a true story from the star's life, will anchor the entertainment lineup of the Ryman when it reopens in June 1994, following an $8.5 million restoration.
The Ryman opened in 1892 and was the home of the Grand Ole Opry from 1943 to 1974. It has been operated as a museum for most of the last 20 years. A massive interior renovation was begun last September by the venue's owner, Gaylord Entertainment Co., which also owns Opryland USA and the current Grand Ole Opry House.
Officials say the restoration will return the building to its glory days, and "if Patsy Cline herself were able to walk on stage, she would feel right at home, with one significant addition--air conditioning." Cline was killed in a plane crash in 1963.
