_: Pakistan qualifies for GSP Plus status under the new European Union regulations, but Islamabad has yet to submit an application to the European Commission for the purpose. This was revealed by European Union Ambassador Lars-Gunnar Wigemark at a meeting at the Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI). "The ball is now in Pakistan's court to effectively negotiate with the EU to obtain GSP plus in 2014. We have expectations and hope that Pakistan may qualify for GSP Plus," the ambassador said. He said that the new regulations have been adopted to accommodate countries like Pakistan as 'EU treats its trade partners equally'. It was imperative that Pakistan government should timely negotiate as the EU Commission in Brussels would take at least six month time to evaluate application.
