Sound out this apt email address for Tennyson Oyler, VP of brand management and public affairs for Pac Life: [email protected]. Turn to our front-page report on pending changes and other possibilities at Pac Life's Aviation Capital Group, and you'll see that Oyler was indeed a toiler last week, handling media on a couple of big announcements that covered both the parent and subsidiary ... v ACG wasn't the only company to announce a change of CEOs last week, when word came that Todd Hymel would take the reins from Jason Steris at action sports apparel label Volcom, while Thomas Vertin is headed to the top spot at Pacific Mercantile Bank as Steven Buster gets ready to retire. The Business Journal flagged both Volcom and PacMerc as Companies to Watch in our preview coverage last year (see 2016 Preview in next week's issue) and the recent comer-office moves came just in time for this week's 2015 in Review coverage, which you'll find from page 4 to page 16 ... Chapman U President Jim Doti braved the groans but avoided worse during the school's A. Gary Anderson Center for Economic Research annual forecast at the Segerstrom Center last week. No problem on the economy-Chapman sees plenty of room for another year of moderate growth here and nationally. It was an index devised to predict winners of presidential campaigns by party-a method that's been right 10 of the past 11 elections-that had Doti pleading that the audience not "shoot the messenger." The index indicated the Democratic nominee will win by about 7 percentage points next year. Doti didn't make it easy on himself amid the GOP-leaning crowd-a slide-show' photo suggested Hillary Clinton as the likely nominee, and he noted that historic patterns indicate the margin for the Dems will be even greater if anyone named Trump or otherwise makes a third-party run ... Doti just qualified for his 1 Oth Boston Marathon, thanks to a spirited run through Sacramento for California International Marathon. A recent birthday helped, bringing a new age bracket with a 4:25 benchmark to qualify for Boston. Doti beat it with 90 seconds to spare ... Anyone who saw Doti on stage for the forecast would likely agree that all that running has kept him looking youthful. The Insider says give some of the credit to wife/stylist, Lynne, and David Welch of b.spoke in Costa Mesa, who certainly keep him looking contemporaiy ... Newly appointed Director of Sales & Marketing Virgil Napier says dedication to preparation pays off for Irvine Co.'s Resort at Pelican Hill, citing this statistic as evidence: More than 50% of the groups who bring their business there renew for their next event before checking out... Kudos to Pelican Hill guest services staffer Chuck Dubrow, who ably and aptly doubles as a photo stylist, kindly offering visitors tips on the best angle for cellphone shots of the fantastic gingerbread house in the sun-dappled lobby ... Not much lamentation about the pending farewell of Scott's in Costa Mesa. Maybe the calamari at the Coliseum Grill helps explain why-it's a rare and worthy competitor to Scott's version of the squiggly stuff, one of the finer things on the menu at the Costa Mesa restaurant, which is due to become a Water Grill... Here's another fun one to sound out: Trieu-Chau Restaurant at First Street & Newhope in Santa Ana. Like that? Do it again at the New Trieu-Chau at Brookhurst & Westminster Boulevard in Garden Grove.
