The outlook for Cafe Degas during its first year was grim.
Co-owner Jacques Soulas, 54 recalls the struggle 25 years later, sitting at one of its round tables sipping a glass of white wine toward the end of a busy Sunday brunch.
He said he learned an important lesson as a new restaurateur.
"As an owner, you are kind of married to the place," Soulas said.
