AEP Ohio is weighing its options after Ohio regulators on Jan. 9 said the company does not need the proposed 49.9-MW Turning Point solar project to meet renewable energy needs but should still continue to develop the project.
The company had asserted that the project, to be built on 750 acres that formerly housed a coal mine in Noble County, is needed to meet solar energy resources requirements. Under a deal with Turning Point Solar LLC, which will build the facility, AEP Ohio will invest $20 million in the project and will be solely responsible for the operation and maintenance of the facility once it becomes operational.
The project has ties to a long-term forecast report filed with the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio in April 2010. The report, or LTFR, has information about AEP Ohio's energy demand, peak loads and reserves, as well as...
