In her first speech as North Las Vegas mayor a year and a half ago, Shari Buck pledged to help recession-weary businesses. Many companies say she's made good the promise.
Buck focused on business creation and assistance Jan. 13 in her North Las Vegas State of the City address. Although its one of the hardest-hit cities in the state, and in the country, North Las Vegas remains an attractive place to do business, she said.
"We are North Las Vegas, and we are open for business," Buck said, offering the city's catchphrase to a couple of hundred attendees at Texas Station.
Buck acknowledged the city's economic struggles while trying to stay upbeat in her remarks.
"There's no doubt that each of us has felt the burden of the Great Recession: The families facing foreclosure, the businesses struggling to stay afloat (and) our own city employees working to do more with less and keep operations running smoothly," she said.
