Mitsui Chemicals has developed Technoroto, a fine linear shaped resin made of polyethylene that can freely bend just like wire. It costs more than wire but is not likely to poke the fingers. The company has developed an item that at about 0.1 mm is 75% thinner than current similar items and will be used for the hair of Mattel's Barbie dolls. The order is for enough material to make two million dolls. Linear resin is used for bag twist-ties and for hats to keep them in shape. Mitsui Chemicals is promoting sales of the product for various uses beyond the toy market.
