Mission Statement: To foster, develop, and establish for the city of Syracuse, the county of Onondaga, and the central portion of New York State a science and technology center which communicates scientific and technological concepts and information through extensive use of participatory exhibits and educational programs; to promote, produce, and cause to be produced exhibits, activities, and displays creating a participatory environment; and to encourage creativity, involvement, and appreciation of local heritage.
History of Organization: Starting as The Discovery Center, the Milton J. Rubenstein Museum of Science and Technology (The MOST) has become one of the top visitor attractions in Onondaga County.
Founded by three local volunteer organizations--the Junior League, the National Council of Jewish Women, and the Technology Club of Syracuse--the Museum spent the first 11 years in a storefront on Clinton Street in downtown Syracuse. During that time, as the first "hands-on" science museum in upstate New York, it opened the only public planetarium in Central New York, its audience grew to more than 50,000...
