MSCM has thrown its lot in with the FGS Partnership, which now claims to be 'the largest indigenous accountancy practice in Ireland'. CIAN MOLLOY reports.
FGS has consolidated its seventh place ranking in the Top 10 accountancy firms following its successful wooing of Moore Stephens Caplin Meehan (MSCM), who were ranked 16th last year.
The chief motivation for the move is to win a greater number of contracts from large corporate clients, but the move also provides economies of scale and business development opportunities, says FGS management partner Ian Duffy. "Our new enlarged practice enables us to compete for more business in the family-owned, corporate and larger companies sector as well as leveraging our niche services such as PPP, management consultancy and insolvency, where we already have strong market positions."
The move is 'a great fit', says Julian Caplin, who co-founded MSCM in 1985 with Rory Meehan. "The merged business will offer our clients the combined expertise of both firms and an enhanced range of services," said Caplin. "Both practices are committed to strong growth strategies, and the merged business will be positioned to compete for new business on a bigger scale for Tax, Audit and Assurance work in the public and private sectors as well as for international business."
MSCM brings to FGS additional expertise in both audit and assurance and in tax consultancy, with tax consultancy work having accounted for 20-30% of MSCM business. The additional expertise in international taxation is seen as a significant boost to FGS's plans for greater...
