Marine Corps marksmanship training with individual small arms has been revised (MCO 3574.2E) and the new procedures are already in use by several Marine rifle ranges.
One of the major innovations is the implementation of the "Known Distance" (KD) course, which replaces the "A" and "C" courses. The KD course closely resembles the "A" course, but there are some differences.
To begin with, the shooting sequence is rearranged somewhat on the 200 yard line. Shooters will fire three strings of slow fire, five rounds each, starting with the most stable position; sitting, kneeling and standing. The rapid fire string, standing to sitting, remains the same except shooters now have 60 seconds to get off 10 well-aimed rounds.
