The Sept. 18 Oscar De La Hoya-- Felix Trinidad fight put the "eyes of the world" on Las Vegas' 6month-old Mandalay Bay Events Center, said Gordon Absher, director of public relations for the venue.
Hundreds of journalists and thousands of tourists descended on the 3,700-room Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino for the boxing match, he said.
Admission packages for the 12,000-seat, sold-out event started at $3,500. Seats for a closed circuit viewing in a ballroom of the hotel went for $50 apiece. Additional tickets were distributed to high rollers in casinos throughout town. The fight was promoted by Top Rank. "We're forming [promoter] relationships quickly," Absher said. "It's not a difficult venue to sell. It seats a good number, and there's not a bad seat in the house."
