A 2-year-old technology company with its roots on Tobacco Road and lines that reach to Washington, D.C., plans to build an operations center in Gwinnett County. That center will serve as a hub for the company's expansion into Georgia and other parts of the Southeast.
Interpath Communications Inc., a subsidiary of Carolina Power & Light Co., is negotiating to occupy all of a 60,000-square-foot building to be developed in Sugarloaf Park. It will be the company's second control center,
Operating in conjunction with Interpath's headquarters and control center in Research Triangle Park, N.C., the Atlanta base will serve business customers as an application service provider. The Research Triangle Park area is known for its mix of tobacco fields and technology companies.
Businesses pay Interpath to run software packages on the Interpath servers in Gwinnett County and North Carolina. Customers then access the software through Interpath's private fiber-optic network.
Office brokers John Shlesinger and Sam Holmes of Insignia/ESG Inc. are representing Interpath in negotiating the lease for the build-to-suit facility. Interpath will create 110 new jobs with the opening of the operations center, company officials said.
