Indiana's newest bank will have one office. It will be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. And customers, instead of waiting in line and signing a check, will simply point and click.
The First Internet Bank of Indiana is nearing the end of a $15 million initial stock sale and is awaiting Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. approval. Founded by a bank executive and a software entrepreneur, the bank's headquarters will be at 8335 Allison Pointe Trail.
And when the bank officially goes on line, it will be one of only a few full-service Internet banks in the country.
Though it's now a rarity, full-service Internet banking is expected to grow in popularity in the next few years as more people log on and feel comfortable conducting business on line.
"That market is growing rapidly," said Bill King, president of the Indiana Bankers Association. "My 82-year-old father and mother just bought a computer and hooked it up to the Internet. It's just amazing."
"The whole industry is moving in that direction," said John Tanselle, an attorney at Krieg DeVault Alexander & Capehart who specializes in banking law. "You've got younger individuals who aren't afraid of the computer. Older people, too."
