United Artists has closed Baltimore's only Inner Harbor movie theater and is trying to terminate the long-term lease for its space at Harbor Park.
The movie company abruptly shut down the struggling theater complex at the corner of Lombard Street and Market Place last week. Kurt Hall, CEO of United Artists Theatre Circuit Inc., said the company has closed that location and has no plans to reopen there. "We weren't making lots of money," Hall said.
In recent years, the entranceway of the theater, which also serves as access for an adjacent parking garage, became known as a gathering spot for loiterers. The homeless tried to sleep there, and often begged patrons for money. The theater was robbed on several occasions.
