When Ron Inkley sold Inkley's, his successful chain of high-end photo developing studios and camera shops, to Ritz Camera in 1996, he got out of the film photography industry just before the storm. With customers beginning to print photos on their inkjets and buying digital cameras from the electronics store, film photography soon followed the typewriter into technological obscurity. Last year, Ritz filed for bankruptcy.
But father and son team Mat and Ron Inkley have returned to business with the Imaging Depot, a 21st century camera store and digital image printer on Ogden's Historic 25th Street. The Imaging Depot opened its doors on Sept. 22.
"We both strongly felt it was time to come back," Mat Inkley said.
Since his father sold the family business, Inkley has pursued large-format commercial imaging, giving him valuable insights into digital imaging and high-tech printing technologies. He worked for the Ferrari Color team and for LAgraphico, imaging company attached to the movie industry. As much as growing up in his father's stores, Inkley has credited learning the ropes of the commercial side of the imaging business with the knowhow he brings to the Imaging Depot.
