Wow. Really rich platform and available in a really smart way. Not sure what more you could ask for in a cutting-edge enterprise communication system.
Hey, you want proof that the PBX market is undergoing significant change? Well, this is our second consecutive look at a "free" system. Last time it was Pingtel's SIPxchange; this month Interactive Intelligence, Inc. (aka. 13) sent CT Labs (www.ct-labs.com) the latest "free" version of their famous EIC software.
This "free" version (did we mention it was "free") is based on the same software as the standard version; most of the same features are available too, but only a limited number of users/ resources are live - you need to pony up for extended resources and seats as you need them.
Cool, huh?
Slick as well. If you do choose to purchase more features (or support for more users/resources), you simply load the new license file onto your system - there is no additional software that needs to be loaded and your system configuration remains unchanged. Beautiful.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
CT Labs found that the EIC PBX product was easy to install and configure, since all the EIC files are installed onto the system before it reaches the customer. From there the customer (with or without the help of an installer) uses the wizard-based Setup Assistant to configure all the major aspects of the system.
The EIC system is feature-rich. It includes everything from reporting, presence management (real-time status of users), and even the ability to do station-to-station video conferencing. Very nice! All features that were tested were found to work very well with no problems detected.
The EIC administrative and client GUIs are well designed and easy to use. The major administrative components are all manageable from a single GUI, with separate GUIs for autoattendant configuration, advanced call handling programming, and supervisory monitoring.
The client interface allows the user to log in as a stand-alone softphone (with PC speakers/microphone or headset), or the client interface can be linked to a station phone. At the time of this review the EIC documentation was not quite completed for this new version, but the remaining documentation was found to be well written and very thorough.
