Christus Santa Rosa Health Care recently reopened an 18,000 square-foot ambulatory surgical center that had been closed for more than a year.
According to Cary Fox, vice president of strategy for Christus, the facility initially opened in the South Texas Medical Center under the company's management in 1994. Christus operated the facility for about a year.
Then a physicians' group, the United Surgeons of San Antonio (USSA), took over the operation of the center until March 1998 - when the group decided to move its activities to Rosa Verde Towers downtown, which also is owned by Christus. At that point, the surgical center in the Medical Center closed its doors.
