Home Depot plans to open a store in Forest Lake at a site formerly occupied by a Big K, a large Kmart store.
The existing building will not be expanded, even though it's only 96,000 square feet, smaller than Home Depot's typical new-store format, said Forest Lake City Administrator Chip Robinson. It's also just a couple of blocks away from a 150,000-square-foot Menards store.
Robinson has met with Home Depot representatives three times to discuss the development, but said no formal action has been taken by the city's planning commission. Home Depot has not taken possession of the site yet, he said.
Because there is no expansion of the building, Forest Lake won't have to approve a zoning...
