HIBERNIA NATIONAL BANK booked so many loans last year it had to go to the Federal Home Loan Bank for a loan itself. The bank's average loan portfolio jumped $1.3 billion in 1997 after having been hiked $1.1 billion the previous year.
This big loan growth is the primary reason for Hibernia's higher earnings and revenue last year, says Chief Financial Officer Marsha Gassan.
