The first luxury hotel to open in the chic resort of Gstaad has just celebrated its 100th anniversary with a multimillion euro renovation.
The Grand Hotel Park, which was opened in 1910 to accommodate tourists who were making their way into the region with the newly opened railway, quickly established itself as a destination for society's elite, boasting such rare amenities as central heating, electricity, a lift and round-theclock guest services.
It was acquired in 2003 by Dona Bertarelli who has been planning the make-over ever since and revealed the new look at the end of 2010.
During a 10-month closure for the work to be done, sleek new interiors and luxurious new touches were injected into the landmark hotel, creating a contemporary style while retaining a respect for the regions heritage.
'I wanted to create an authentic Alpine chalet feeling combined with modern comforts and cutting-edge design,' says Bertarelli. 'The newlook Grand Hotel Park will become a destination hotel in its own right.
