GREENWICH--A Long Island company is including a Greenwich site in its plans to open several golf centers in the tri-state area, but first it must appease planning officials and local residents.
The Orient Association Inc. wants to put a 30,000-square-foot building and golf driving range on the vacant 10.2-acre King Street parcel.
The driving range would accommodate as many as 100 golfers on two tiers and would be covered to protect golfers from inclement weather and heated in winter.
While the center would be located across the street from the town's municipal golf course, Bruce Memorial Golf Club, and near the Westchester County Airport, the property is zoned for residential use and requires a zoning improvement change.
"The land has lain there for 25 years, it's right next to the airport," said Dominick Chang, president of Orient. "Housing development isn't favorable. It's been useless for 25 years."
