TOKYO - Fujitsu Hitachi Plasma Display Ltd. (FHP) has completed a second fab for production of plasma display panels for high-definition TVs and is initially targeting production of 32-inch plasma panels based on the Fujitsu-developed alternate lighting of surfaces (ALIS) technology.
Thus far, 42 inches has been the standard size for plasma display panels. "With ALIS, we can offer a 32-inch HD display, which should be quite difficult for our competitors" to achieve via more conventional technology, FHP president Toru Katsurada said at the opening of the fab in Miyazaki, Japan.
ALIS employs VGA-resolution electrodes but can display high-definition images. Conventional plasma display panels employ a pair of electrode lines to form one emitting line. The pair is a fixed combination. The ALIS method, by contrast, is an interlaced operation whereby an...
