BOULDER VALLEY INC.
BOULDER-Four-star premier restaurant Flagstaff House launched an online e-commerce arm. The virtual store, www.shopflagstaffhouse.com, was developed by Louisville-based CTA Public Relations.
The Web site gives consumers the ability to buy Flagstaff House glassware, food and even the restaurant's 160-page wine list.
Located on Flagstaff Mountain at more than 6,000 feet, the Flagstaff House been owned and operated by the Monette family since 1971.
Fulfillment is done at the restaurant. "The nice thing is we're selling the things we already have so we have them in stock," said Scott Monette, partner and general manager. "People have been buying them for years at the restaurant."
Prices range from about $25 for a teapot to $50 for the rabbit butler (a small sculpture that holds appetizers) to $200 for a crystal wine decanter. Monette said between buying "huge volumes" of glassware and china having no storefront overhead the restaurant can charge "reasonable prices."
The 20,000-bottle wine collection isn't for sale, however, just the wine list. Flagstaff House doesn't have a license to sell wine and is working with a retailer to add that feature, Monette said.
Flagstaff House, which also sells gift certificates on its restaurant Web site at www.flagstaffhouse.com, invested about $4,000 and $5,000 to build the e-commerce site. "We thought it would be a good thing to have in addition to gift certificates," Monette said. "We knew we would make our money back soon because of the business we've already had based on no exposure."
