CUTTING EDGE is a term the information technology business has long tossed about, but to a large degree it is a game of incremental steps. Netlan Inc. does not edge into a market. It takes leaps into emerging technologies, placing the company in a pre-eminent role in systems and networking integration.
Such is the case with the odds-on gamble the company is taking with Fibre Channel host bus adapters, a super-speedy technology on the verge of revolutionizing storage. And even in the highly unlikely event that Fibre Channel does not take holdand with the ever increasing need for speed, the technology is a sure bet-it is a gamble company officials say will pay off in the future in reputation and technical skill.
"When we were founded, the micros-to-mainframes arena was leading edge, and our raison d'etre was to remain on the edge. Today, Fibre Channel is just a continuation of this. We are making the investment because we are challenging ourselves on every level; and on the business side, we have that much more value to offer clients. It's also a lot more fun with a much bigger payback," said President Michael Gansl, one of Netlan's founders.
