Riverwoods, Ill.-based Discover Financial Services Inc. made its biggest play yet to capture attention and cardholders on the Internet with its Feb. 2 launch of the Discover Desk$hop virtual credit card.
The strategy behind Discover's newest offering online is not to add technology for technology's sake, but to offer its existing cardholders concrete benefits such as control and convenience, says Colleen Zambole, vice president, Electronic Commerce for Discover Financial Services Inc. The company is a division of New York- based brokerage giant Morgan Stanley Dean Witter (MWD).
The virtual credit card allows cardholders "one-click" access to their online account, a drag-and-drop mechanism for shopping on the Internet, and real-time access to credit balance information.
Dublin, Ireland-based Trintech (TTPA), a designer of electronic payment system architecture, provides the platform for Discover Desk$hop's form-filling functionality with Trintech's PayGate NetIssuer virtual credit card system.
Convenience, Control
The virtual credit card offers cardholders new functionality online, which always comes back to the central benefits of control and convenience.
