When a transportation firm suddenly abandoned its plans to buy a privately held trucking concern in Colorado, the target was shocked. The numbers looked great and the synergy was there, so what was the problem?
What the target's owner didn't know was that the would-be acquirer had hired a private investigator to check out the owner's background. The private eye found that the seller was also CEO of a Utah trucking firm that was in bankruptcy. That fact was enough to scuttle the deal....
