Abstract
Oil is an integral part of Cushing's commerce. The city is so well known as a major hub for oil distribution that it is called the "Pipeline Crossroads of the World." Cushing serves as the price settlement point for West Texas Intermediate crude oil on the New York Mercantile Exchange and is the most significant trading hub for crude oil in North America. Cushing also serves as a crude blending station. Cushing was established in the early oil boom days. The town began when the Sac and Fox Indian Reservation opened to homesteaders Sep 21, 1891. Today, Cushing is once again in the midst of an oil boom -- or more specifically, an oil-storage building boom. Career opportunities exist outside the oil and pipeline companies as well. Cushing will need entrepreneurs to start up new businesses to support the tank farms and pipelines.
