TOP NEWS IN PRIVATE EQUITY
* New York-based private equity firm Clayton Dubilier & Rice LLC agreed to acquire U.K.-based plumbing and heating products distributor Wolseley UK Ltd. from Ferguson PLC, for £308 million. The company will become independent and wholly owned by the private equity firm's funds and management upon the completion of the carve-out transaction, which is set to occur in the first quarter.
* Applied Materials Inc. increased its offer to acquire Kokusai Electric Corp. from private equity firm KKR & Co. Inc. The U.S. semiconductor equipment maker agreed to pay $3.5 billion for its Japanese peer from an initial $2.2 billion offer it made in June 2019. Applied Materials, Kokusai and KKR also extended the closing date to March 19 to secure regulatory approval from China's State Administration for Market Regulation.
