Wild Salmon Direct, launched by two Kodiak salmon fishermen, is counting on the public's yen for the highest quality of wild Alaska salmon to boost their 2-year-old venture to new heights.
The company, established by fishermen Dave Loutrel and Chuck McWethy, specializes in fresh and frozen wild Alaska sockeye and coho salmon caught in the waters off Kodiak Island. Their niche is in the way they handle the fish, using a method that allows them to control the quality of their catch from the time it is netted until it is sold.
"We've been selling to restaurant suppliers who handle highend restaurants," said Loutrel, who also has a law practice in Anchorage. "We do a lot of fish marketing in the summer. At this point, we ship some to Vegas, some to Chicago and some to New York."
